Policy Statement
Certification Registry and Public Listing Policy
All individuals who successfully complete an NIBM-certified program will be listed in our public certification registry as part of our commitment to transparency, workforce credibility, and professional recognition.

The registry will include the certified individual’s name, credential(s) earned, and date of certification.

This listing allows employers, academic institutions, and stakeholders to verify the status and authenticity of NIBM-issued certifications.
Opting Out of Public Listing
If you prefer not to have your certification publicly listed, you may request removal by contacting admin@nibm.org.
Please note:

Opting out of public listing does not prevent potential employers or other authorized parties from verifying your certification status upon request.

Verification may still be provided upon submission of a formal inquiry to NIBM, following identity and intent verification protocols.
Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct
Violation of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:

Formal reprimand

Suspension of certification status

Revocation of certification
NIBM reserves the right to investigate reported violations and take appropriate action to uphold the integrity of its credentials and protect public trust.
1. Ethical and Legal Practice

Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws governing healthcare and behavioral health practices.

Maintain appropriate licensure and certifications as required.

Practice within the boundaries of your role, the scope of your training, and your professional competence.
2. Patient and Client Engagement

Engage with patients or clients in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and supportive manner.

Foster therapeutic relationships that uphold dignity, trust, and the patient’s or client’s rights.

Honor confidentiality and informed consent at all times, as mandated by law and professional ethics.
3. Trauma-Informed Care Principles

Understand the widespread impact of trauma and actively work to avoid re-traumatization.

Recognize signs and symptoms of trauma in patients, clients, families, and staff.

Integrate knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and everyday interactions.
4. Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security

Prioritize the Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security of all individuals involved in healthcare or mental healthcare settings, including:

Patients and clients

Yourself as a practitioner

Colleagues and support personnel

Take appropriate action in cases of potential harm, abuse, or unsafe conditions.

Promote wellness, equity, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
5. Professionalism and Integrity

Act with honesty, accountability, and responsibility in all professional interactions.

Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential bias or dual relationships.

Commit to ongoing professional development and reflect evidence-based practices in your work.

The National Institute of Behavioral Medicine (NIBM) evaluates educational programs for high-quality learning in accordance with nationally recognized best practices and industry standards. The National Institute of Behavioral Medicine grants institutions and organizations the authority to certify individuals who have successfully completed their approved educational program or course. However, NIBM:

Does not assume legal responsibility or liability for the actions, inactions, or outcomes resulting from individuals who have been certified through any of its approved programs.

Cannot and does not guarantee the ethical or professional conduct of any certified individual in the workplace or clinical settings.

Is not liable for any claims, damages, or legal actions arising from the negligent, unethical, inappropriate, or illegal behavior of any person holding a NIBM credential.
All certified individuals are solely responsible for their conduct and must operate within the laws, regulations, and licensure requirements of their respective jurisdictions and employers.
Employers, patients, clients, and the public are encouraged to perform their own due diligence when hiring or working with certified individuals. Certification from NIBM indicates completion of coursework and does not substitute for licensure, supervision, or clinical governance requirements established by local authorities or professional bodies.
